Website accessibility.
Building websites that are accessible as well as attractive and functional is an essential way that we work at Effective Digital. Each page on our website scores a minimum accessibility rating as denoted by the
symbol. We aim to ideally reach AAA level where possible but our minimum standard is A rating. Look for the logo in the footer of each page to identify its accessibility rating.
With this goal in mind we have adopted the following features and standards on our website:
NAVIGATION
We have made our site navigation as clear and easy to use as possible. All main navigation menus are text based and use no images or JavaScript. Additionally all main navigational links are featured in the header of each page and repeated in the footer.
HEADINGS AND NAVIGATION MENUS
HTML heading tags are used to convey document structure. H1 tags are used for main titles, H2 tags for subtitles and so on.
IMAGES
All images used throughout our website include descriptive alt tag attributes. Where an image is purely for decorative reasons and has no other use the alt tag is set to null (a blank space) in order to allow for easy reading of the site by all users and automated tools.
COLOURS
We have made sure that the font and background colour combinations contrast significantly and are effective in ensuring information is still clear when viewed in different colour combinations. You of course have the choice to override the website colours using your browsers settings should you wish.
TEXT/FONT SIZE
The text used on our website is fully scalable, therefore font sizes can be increased or decreased using the standard controls (holding down the Ctrl Key and using the + or - keys on your keyboard).
STYLESHEETS
This website uses cascading style sheets for visual layout. If your browser does not support stylesheets, or you have chosen to switch them off, we have tried to ensure that the content of each page is still readable and clearly structured without stylesheets.
FORMS AND FIELDS
All form fields in this website follow a logical tab sequence to ensure easy navigation. Additionally, form fields also have “id” attributes to explicitly associate the form field with its appropriate label to allow for easy entry of data.
JAVASCRIPT
Javascript is used for some elements of this site. Where it is used then all pages and process are still accessible if Javascript is turned off.
LINKS
All links have been written to make sense when taken out of context. Where possible we have also added link title attributes to describe links in more detail. Links to third party websites will open a new browser window or tab.
COPY
We have tried to make sure that the copy on our website is well laid out and simple to understand. Where possible all acronym and industry jargon has been fully explained, with key phrases defined in our
web-glossary.
BROWSER INFORMATION
Wherever possible, we would recommend upgrading your browser to the latest version number to take full advantage of this website and the internet in general. We have tested this website using the following browsers: Mozilla Firefox 3.0.7, Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, 7 & 8, Apple Safari 2.0 and Google Chrome.
